What is science?
Science is observing the world by watching, listening, observing and recording. It is the curiosity in thoughtful action about the world and how we behave. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world. Science can make our world a better place.
What is a scientist?
A scientist is someone who loves to ask questions about the world and find out how things work. They explore, test ideas, and make discoveries to help us understand everything around us- from tiny germs to giant planets. Scientists use careful observations and experiments to solve problems and create new things.
Science is everywhere in our lives. When you wake up and brush your teeth, science has helped create the toothpaste that keeps your teeth healthy. Doctors use science to make medicine when you’re unwell. Engineers use science to buil bridges, planes and even rollercoasters! Meteorologists help predict the weather, so we know if we need a raincoat.
Throughout history, many amazing scientists have made the world a better place place. Marie Curie discovered important things about radiation, which helps doctors treat illnesses like cancer. Isaac Newton explained gravity and Jane Goodall studied chimpanzees to help us understand how animals live.
Science is important because it helps us take care of the planet too. Scientists work on finding clean energy, like wind and solar power so we don’t pollute the Earth. They also study animals and plants to protect nature and help endangered species.
