WELCOME TO ROBINS

Welcome back!

Welcome back to our current Year One children and a big welcome to our new Reception children and their families.

We have had a fantastic start to the term and have been delighted by the warmth and kindness shown to new children and staff and the eagerness to learn.

We will be sending opportunities for Home Learning activities from next Monday and these will include:

Reading books will be changed every Monday and Thursday where your child has been listened to at least three times. We will either send home a book or allocate a book on Bug Club. You can access books at: https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login. Your child’s username and password is your child’s name followed by 123 for example, Rebecca123. The school code is 6pk3. Please record your comments in the reading diary, date and sign.  You can ask your child questions about the characters and plot and encourage them to predict what might happen next.

Spelling lists will reflect the sounds the children are learning during phonics and include ‘Tricky Words’ for example, ‘said’ and ‘believe.’  Children need to learn these because they are phonetically irregular but occur frequently in the English language.  New spellings will be sent home every Monday and tested the following Monday.  Please make learning these spellings fun. A paintbrush dipped in water and used to write on a wooden fence or a finger on a mirror at bath time are two ideas – please share your own!  For Reception children, I will send home words so they can practise thinking about the sounds they need for spelling and their letter formation.

Maths’s homework activities will be sent home for the Year one children to practice. There will be six questions to complete in six minutes and will reflect the learning in class.

The 100% sheet attached details all the important topic knowledge your child will be learning this term.

The children will have P.E and Forest School on Tuesday afternoon. Please send them in to school wearing their P.E kit with an extra layer of leggings and a fleece for Forest School.

The children often play on the school field and in the sandpit, so please send in a pair of wellie boots that can ideally be kept in school. It is important to send in a coat because we try to get outside, even when it’s raining.

If there are any questions or concerns about the home learning tasks set (or anything else) at any point during the term, please do not hesitate to come and see me in the mornings or after school. If we are not available at that time, please contact me via Class Dojo and I will respond as soon as I can.

Kind regards,

Mrs Hancock

Robins class teacher

Things to Remember

With so many things to remember, here are a few reminders to help. Also please check the routines section of the letter for any changes to the current routine:

  • We will continue to change books on Mondays, and Thursday. Please can children have their books in school every day.
  • Please can all children have a pair of wellies in school.
  • Please ensure all uniform, including shoes and belongings are labelled.
  • As the weather is very changeable at the moment, please make sure your child brings a coat into school.
Please can all children bring a water bottle to school.
